Eleven SIM cards have been found in the possession of the man who was arrested for breaching chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s security ring and entering her residence compound, police said on Monday.

Hafizur Mollah, the accused, allegedly visited Bangladesh last year and was in contact with criminals in Mumbai, Gujarat and Bihar, an officer said.

“We are yet to find out why he had gone to Bangladesh or why he was in touch with criminals,” the officer said.

The police said Mollah had been visiting pockets of Kalighat in south Kolkata and befriending children around the chief minister’s house over the past few weeks.

Mollah was spotted around the residence by police personnel around 8.30am on July 4.

The police said they had found a mobile phone on the man, in which there were several photographs of the chief minister’s house.

He was produced in court on Monday and remanded in police custody till July 18.
