East-West Metro introduced a QR-code based online ticketing system from Saturday. To avail the facility, the Metro Ride Kolkata app has to be downloaded from Google Play Store.

A new user has to sign up and log in before booking a “QR ticket”. The booking will need a user to key in the source and destination stations. After making an online payment, a “QR code” will be generated. The code has to be produced at the gates of the Metro stations. The scanners embedded in the gates will read the QR code, said a Metro official. The smart cards and tokens will also be available at the stations, alongside online tickets at the East West stations, said an official. The East-West Metro corridor, which will link Howrah and Salt Lake once fully functional, is now operational between Sector V and Phoolbagan.
