A 65-year-old man’s body was found between Ballygunge and Dhakuria railway stations on Tuesday afternoon and a few hours later, police found a woman’s body in the man’s flat at Garfa off Jadavpur in south Kolkata.
Police said according to their preliminary findings, it appeared that Goradhan Seth had murdered Shanti Singh in his flat before ending his own life.
Seth, who used to work as a bus driver several years ago, lived alone on a ground floor flat at Sarat Bose Colony in Garfa.
On Tuesday afternoon, when GRP officials found Seth’s body, they identified it by calling a relative from his mobile phone. “Seth’s brother identified the body. A few hours later, he went to Seth’s apartment where he found Shanti Singh’s body,” said an officer of Garfa police station.
Shanti, in her late-40s, who lives in Beleghata in northeast Kolkata, was allegedly in a relationship with Seth, the police said. “She had gone to Seth’s house on Tuesday. Later in the afternoon, her sister, Munni Singh received a call from Seth saying he had killed Shanti.”
Shanti was found in Seth’s flat with a dupatta around her neck, indicating that she could have been strangled.
The cops said the exact cause why Seth could have killed Shanti was yet to be ascertained.
