A pump in central Kolkata on Thursday launched a service to deliver diesel to the doorstep of hotels, hospitals, housing complexes and other commercial bulk users.

The service will not be available for motorists.

Central Services, a retailer of Bharat Petroleum on GC Avenue, has started the service as a pilot project. The delivery will be limited to a 1.5-km radius of the pump for now.

Users have to download an app, Humsafar, on their phones from Google Play Store to place orders. A minimum order of 20 litres has to be placed, said an official of the pump.

“We want to target hotels, housing complexes, hospitals, schools and other institutional users of diesel. They use diesel in gensets, boiler rooms and other machinery. These are usually bulk buyers,” said Tanmay Agrawal, the owner of the pump. The pump will deliver diesel in 20-litre jars, mounted on bikes or mini-trucks.

“We have launched this service at over 60 outlets in eastern India. This is the first in Kolkata. We want to cover 30-35 outlets in the city this year,” said a Bharat Petroleum official.
