Dhaba fare at fest, plus Eiffel Tower view

I have come here after work a few times. The view here is spectacular. The breeze from the Eco Park lake is very soothing. It is a lovely place to relax right inside the city, said Sanjay Bansal, who has taken over as managing director of Hidco

The only place in the world where you can gaze at the Eiffel Tower while sipping masala tea seated on a charpoy by a lake is now offering another reason to visit. Dhaba Ajante, which is located at the foot of the replica of the French monument in New Town, has announced a Kebab Paratha Festival.

“I have come here after work a few times. The view here is spectacular. The breeze from the Eco Park lake is very soothing. It is a lovely place to relax right inside the city,” said Sanjay Bansal, who has taken over as managing director of Hidco.

Bansal unveiled the menu of the festival on Saturday. There are 28 types of kebabs on offer, 14 each of vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Mushroom Galauti, Malai Broccoli (both Rs 209) and Badami Paneer (Rs 157) are the top picks for vegetarians and for meat lovers, the dishes to order would be Chapli Kebab (Rs 314), Kakori Kebab (Rs 262) in mutton and Kabuli Barbecue Chicken (Rs 314). There are 10 options in paratha, including three non-veg ones. Andey Ka Paratha (Rs 83) is very crispy, more so than the other parathas, and is served with dahi, achar and salad.

While one can enjoy the outdoor ambiance, the dhaba also has an air-conditioned indoor option with 55 seats.

“The café was opened in June 2020 when people wanted open-air options during the pandemic. It used to be called Paris Cafe but was renamed Dhaba Ajante by the chief minister when she visited us during a Bengal Global Business Summit meet,” said Snehasis Sinha, general manager, tourism, Hidco.

Visitors to the dhaba would do well to go up to the viewing gallery of the Eiffel Tower for a breathtaking view of the park if they reach by 6pm. Tickets cost Rs 30 and the counter is right across the road. “One can go up free if one has already bought a ticket to Eco Park,” said an official.

The festival is on till June 23 but the dhaba will not be open on the day of the election (June 1) and on Mondays.
