A 32-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by some relatives on March 23 and 24 over a dispute related to a shop in central Kolkata died on Saturday night.
Based on the complaint of the sister of the deceased person, Mohammad Raju, police arrested three men on Sunday.
An officer at Jorasanko police station said Raju and sister Sabnam Khatun had earlier alleged that they had been assaulted by some of their relatives over a dispute related toa shop on MM Burman Streeton March 23.
Raju was taken to a hospital and was discharged after treatment.
“Raju was again attacked on March 24 and was admitted to hospital,” the officer said.
Based on Khatun’s complaint, the police started a case against the accused — Mohammad Imtiaz, Zahid Alam and Mohammad Firoz — charging them with assault, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy
“After the death of the victim, the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been slapped on the accused.”
Raju’s condition worsened on Saturday and was being shifted to another hospital when he died, the police said.
