A critically injured Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was airlifted from Krishnanagar in West Bengal’s Nadia district to Kolkata for treatment on Saturday night.
BSF constable Shabir Ahmed Wani of the 141st battalion was critically injured during an “operational task”, a defence officer said.
The jawan was airlifted by an Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter from Krishnanagar to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata late on Saturday night.
A medical team was onboard the chopper and the injured patient was handed over to another medical team at the airport, the officer said.

Members of Parliament from Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha, who are part of the divisional committees of Kharagpur and Adra divisions of South Eastern Railway, met general manager Archana Joshi in Kolkata on Friday. The meeting discussed the safety of women passengers, restoration of the pre-COVID schedule and infrastructure upgrade, said an official.
