At least 600 doses of Covishield were administered by the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation’s vaccination centres after the drive resumed on Thursday, an official of the civic body’s health department said.
The Covid-19 vaccination drive had ground to a halt in the run-up to Durga Puja at these centres.
The official said both first and second doses were administered at Matri Sadan Hospital in Salt Lake’s EE Block, Vidyasagar Matri Sadan Hospital in Rajarhat and Deshbandhu Hospital in Baguiati.
Two primary healthcare centres in Duttabad and in Kestopur also administered doses.
The Telegraph reported that the centres would resume vaccination from Thursday.
Krishna Chakraborty, the chairperson of the board of administrators of the civic body, said: “We want to ensure that the maximum number of people get vaccinated.”
“We have also requested the health department for more doses,” Chakraborty added.
The vaccination drive by the Bidhannagar civic body is resuming at a time the number of Covid cases in Kolkata, as well as in North 24 and South 24-Parganas, are on the rise.
As many as 232 new cases were reported in Kolkata on Wednesday. The corresponding figures in North and South 24-Parganas are 143 and 79, respectively.
At the Matri Sadan Hospital there was a queue of recipients.
Swapan Bistu, 54, a resident of FE Block who had come there to get his second shot, had to wait for an hour before his turn.
“I am relieved that I have finally got the second shot. We went during the pujas but turned back from most pandals when we saw people roaming around without their masks.”
Health department officials and public health experts have been stressing the need to accelerate the vaccination drive, particularly during the festive season.
The civic body also resumed the rapid antigen test for Covid inside the municipal sports complex. “We have conducted as many as 40 tests today,” said a senior official.
