Covid vaccination camps in different areas in Salt Lake, which were discontinued after several vaccinators had contracted Covid, are set to resume from Thursday.
One such camp is slated to take place in BE Block on Thursday.
According to an official of the health department, all three doses, including the first, second and precaution doses will be made available to the residents.
These vaccination camps were happening across Salt Lake.
But they had been called off for a few weeks as several vaccinators had contracted Covid themselves resulting in a shortage of trained personnel who could administer vaccines properly.
A senior official of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation’s health department said that they have around 300 health workers who are part of the vaccine drive, which is being run by the civic body.
“During the ongoing vaccine drive, many of our health workers had contracted Covid-19. This resulted in a drop in the number of trained vaccinators and we had to stop the camps for a few days,” the official said.
Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation runs at least four vaccine centres on a daily basis. The four centres are located at the Matri Sadan Hospital in EE Block, the Deshbandhunagar Matri Sadan Hospital in Rajarhat, one at a health centre in Narayanpur and another near Baguiati.
Apart from these centres, vaccine camps in different wards of Salt Lake as well as other places, including Rajarhat, Baguiati and Arjunpur are also being held to ensure that the people who are yet to receive their second dose or the precaution dose can walk in any of these centres and receive the shots.
“We will start with the camp at BE Block and this will continue in phases. We had to take a break from holding these camps as we were hit by a crunch in the number of trained vaccinators,” said another senior official of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation’s health department.
According to figures released by the civic body, more than 10,000 precaution doses and at least 20,000 second doses have been administered from these camps which have been held at different community halls and community centres spread across all the 41 wards of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
On Tuesday, at least 150 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported across the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
