The statement of the mother of the first-year undergraduate student of Jadavpur University who was allegedly thrown off the second floor of a hostel balcony,
was recorded before a magistrate in Alipore court on Tuesday.

She had received a call from her son a few hours before he was allegedly ragged and thrown off the balcony. According to the complaint lodged by the family, the youth, during his last call to his mother had said that he was feeling “very scared” and that he wanted her to come and take him home.

Police have found during the investigation that the call was made from the phone of another boarder of the hostel as the youth’s phone had allegedly been snatched from him.

Later in the day, the victim’s parents also met Calcutta police commissioner Vineet Goyal at the city police headquarters in Lalbazar, where the victim’s mother was handed over an appointment letter in the Health and Family Welfare department.

The move came a day after the bereaved parents of the deceased student went to meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna where they were promised a government job for the mother and the financial responsibility of the victim’s younger brother.

Mamata on Monday had asked the Calcutta police commissioner to “do the needful.”

The family was also promised that a hospital in the hometown of the youth who died would be renamed after him and his statue will be placed there.

Till now police have arrested 12 persons in connection with the case.
