The command centre set up at the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar for Cyclone Mocha drew up a standard operating procedure (SOP) on Sunday.
The SOP has put the Disaster Management Group (DMG) on high alert and asked all police stations in the city to make an assessment of generator requirements if electric lines snap during the storm.
The command centre — also called integrated control room — has been functioning since Sunday. Apart from cops, representatives of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, PWD, fire and emergency services department, disaster management and civil defence department, CESC and other agencies and departments have joined the command centre.
As part of the SOP, the deputy commissioners of all nine divisions of Calcutta police have been asked to identify dilapidated buildings and arrange for additional personnel who will act as first responders.
“The Disaster Management Group has been asked to immediately map vulnerable areas in the Kolkata police area,” an officer of the city police said. “The preparations should be ready early Monday.”
The command centre has also asked police stations to collect information about drainage pumping stations from the civic body.
Senior officers said they would be closely tracking the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal based on inputs from the Indian Meteorological Department.
“The command centre will remain operational till the time Nabanna decides to disband it,” the officer said. “Allied agencies such as RVNL and Metro Railway have been asked to remain ready and constantly coordinate with the command centre.”
