Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman whose drink was said to have been spiked at an office party in a Chinar Park hotel on Saturday night, police said.
An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said the men and the woman were arrested on Thursday after their colleague lodged a complaint with Baguiati police station that she had been gang-raped in a room in the hotel.
“The woman mentioned in the complaint that she, the other woman and the two men were colleagues. They had gone to the Chinar Park hotel to attend a party organised by their office,” the officer said.
At one point the woman felt a bit unwell after having a few drinks.“She said her drink was spiked. After she fell unwell, the two men and the other woman took her to a room on the sixth floor of the hotel. There the complainant was allegedly made to drink more alcohol, after which she was raped. After the incident the woman went back home,” the officer said.
The woman lodged the complaint on Wednesday. “She told us that she was traumatised and took time to gather herself,” the officer said, explaining the delay in lodging the complaint.
Cops from Baguiati police station arrested the men and the woman from their homes early on Thursday.
“We have started an investigation based on the complaint. We have spoken at length with the complainant and will also obtain footage from the CCTV cameras in the hotel to get more details,” said an officer of the commissionerate.
All three have been booked under a number of sections of the IPC, including 376D (gangrape). If convicted, they can be sentenced to life imprisonment. They were produced in a court in Barasat and remanded in judicial custody.
