Justice Rajasekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court on Friday asked the state to “be kind enough” in paying the statutory dues of retired teachers of state-aided schools.
“Teachers are engaged in a noble profession. The state should not make any delay in paying the statutory dues and pension after their retirement,” he said.
Justice Mantha directed the appropriate department to disburse the pension and other dues of the retired school teachers with immediate effect.
A bunch of petitions by retired teachers seeking a court order for clearance of their dues has been clubbed together.
Justice Mantha had summoned several district inspectors of schools in his court for the case. The judge asked the inspectors to take all possible steps so that the teachers got their dues.
“I know the delay is due to the slow movement of different files. The court will not tolerate this type of bureaucracy,” Justice Mantha said.
