SALUTE, BRAVEHEARTS: A Covid memorial at Rabindra Sarobar in south Kolkata was unveiled on Sunday, February 6. This larger-than-life sculpture was designed by artist Shuvaprasanna. The inscription at the bottom of the sculpture reads: “The Birla Academy of Arts and Culture honours the medical fraternity, who so valiantly fought and triumphed over COVID-19, putting their own lives at risk. A big salute to them.”

HOMAGE: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee pays homage to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar at Rabindra Sadan on Monday, February, 7. The veteran artiste passed away on Sunday morning. The Union government had declared two days of state mourning on Sunday and Monday. The Bengal government had announced half-day holiday on Monday ‘as a mark of respect to the departed icon’. The 92-year-old singer had tested positive for Covid with mild symptoms and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital’s intensive care unit on January 8

DREDGING MISSION: Mayor Firhad Hakim inaugurates a desilting project of Kolkata Municipal Corporation at Chetla Boat Canal on Monday, February 7. The canal drains out water from Kidderpore and parts of New Alipore and Chetla. The work will take around two-and-a-half years to complete. Last monsoon, many important thoroughfares in the city faced waterlogging woes. KMC engineers have repeatedly attributed waterlogging in pockets of Kolkata to heavy siltation in the canals

BIBLIOPHILES' HAUNT: Publishers & Booksellers Guild members and the Bangladesh deputy high commissioner release the logo for the 45th International Kolkata Book Fair 2022 at the Kolkata Press Club on Thursday, February 10. Bangladesh is the theme country for the fair. It will be held at the Salt Lake Central Park from February 28 to March 13, honouring the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 50th year of independence of Bangladesh. More than 600 stalls will be set up and space will be made for close to 200 little magazine publishers
