Two homes of IPS officer Debasish Dhar were searched on Sunday by a team of CID officers in connection with a case of disproportionate assets against him.
CID officers said Dhar, who earlier served in the Bidhannagar commissionerate and as superintendent of Coochbehar police, is now an “officer on compulsory waiting”.
Sleuths said Dhar’s homes that were searched were in Jodhpur Park and Sonarpur.
Dhar told The Telegraph that he came to know about this case only on Sunday. “The case was registered today. I have extended all cooperation (to the CID officers). I have been able to provide all documents that were asked of me. The property in Sonarpur belongs to my parents,” he said.
He said he had already declared all his properties to the government.
Homes of businessman Sudipta Roy Chowdhury were also searched on Sunday in connection with the case. CID officers said Roy Chowdhury allegedly helped Dhar multiply his assets.
Roy Chowdhury has earlier been arrested in connection with cheating and extortion cases. His lawyer Subhajit Saha said: “This search is related to a case with charges of corruption.”
Dhar denied having any links with Roy Chowdhury.
