Calcutta High Court on Tuesday reposed its trust in the probe being conducted by the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the alleged irregularities in the appointment of staff at AIIMS Kalyani.
The high court held that the CID would continue its probe into the allegations.
The division bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava rejected a petition seeking handing over of the probe to the CBI, a central investigating agency.
There have been allegations that many were given jobs at AIIMS Kalyani illegally on the basis of recommendations made by some BJP legislators and leaders.
After receiving complaints in this regard, the state government engaged the CID to conduct a probe. The investigation by the CID is still on.
A section of BJP activists and lawyers cried foul as the CID investigators started questioning the party leaders and others in connection with the charges.
So they moved the high court demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI. The high court rejected their plea on Tuesday.
