Five persons have been arrested for an alleged drunken brawl inside and outside a nightclub on Theatre Road and assaulting cops who went to stop them early on Christmas morning.

Around 3.15am on Saturday the five men were allegedly misbehaving with other people on Theatre Road in an apparent intoxicated state and were pushing other pedestrians without any provocation.

“On reaching the spot we found that the same men had allegedly created ruckus inside the nightclub sometime ago and had been asked to leave,” said an officer of Shakespeare Sarani police station, which is not far from the nightclub.

The police said the five allegedly pushed the cops on duty and tried to deter them from performing their duty.

A case has been lodged with Shakespeare Sarani police station based on the complaint of a sub inspector who was part of the team that went to the nightclub after receiving an alert about the five men.

All five were arrested from the spot and have been charged under sections of deterring public servants from performing duty, criminal intimidation, causing voluntary hurt and wrongful restraint.

Total 94 persons have been arrested for disorderly conduct from across the city on Christmas Eve, police said.

The 94 persons included many who were arrested from Park Street for alleged disorderly conduct, roaming around in public places in an alleged intoxicated state and trying to harass women, police said.

“We had a large number of men and women cops in plain clothes who were maintaining vigilance on the Park Street crowd. Anyone spotted indulging in disorderly conduct was being taken to the police station and arrested if the offence demanded so,” said an officer posted on Park Street.
