A man who had apparently impersonated a city dermatologist and prescribed medicines was arrested along with an alleged aide on Sunday, police said.
Officers in Lalbazar said Rajib Sarkar, a resident of New Tollygunge, and Shubho Nath, of Sukantanagar in Bidhannagar South, have been arrested for the alleged fraud.
The police said they received a complaint on February 8 from a doctor who alleged that someone had impersonated him, forged his letterhead and prescribed wrong medicines to patients.
Officers of Rabindra Sarobar police station in south Kolkata had started a probe following which the duo were arrested on Sunday.
One of them — whom the police identified as Rajib Sarkar — is a medical representative. The other man had allegedly impersonated the dermatologist, the police said.
Both have been booked under IPC sections related to cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery, fraud and impersonation.
An officer said posing as a doctor and prescribing medicines was a serious offence and could lead to fatal consequences for the patients.
