Panic prevailed among bus passengers at VIP road on Tuesday when smoke was spotted from the speeding vehicle. The bus on Dankuni-Kamalgachhi route was jampacked. The alert driver stopped the bus immediately to avert any untoward incident.
The incident took place between on VIP Road between Dum Dum Park and Bangur Avenue stops. Even as the bus came to a grinding halt and chaos prevailed and vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear for some time. The conductor and driver drenched the radiator of the bus to contain the smoke. Meanwhile, as soon as the incident was reported, policemen from the Lake Town traffic guard check-post rushed to the spot and made arrangements to tow away the bus to clear the busy thoroughfare.
Even as a short-circuit is being suspected to be the cause of the smoke, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
