The SSC, which functions under the directorate, has told the CBI that the file is missing, the officer said.

This newspaper sent a text message to a senior SSC official asking for a comment on the CBI officer's statement. There was no response to the message till late on Monday.

The SSC has purportedly told the CBI that the file had been missing since June last year. The commission has forwarded to the investigating agency a copy of the general diary lodged with Bidhannagar North police station for the missing file, CBI officers said.

"While replying to our query on some of the files, the SSC has said one file is untraceable. We will contact the Bidhannagar commissionerate to know more about the missing file,” said an officer said.

“We would like to reconfirm with SSC officials the contents of the missing file and start questioning all those who were involved in maintaining the file. The file was related to recruitment of Group C staff in state government-aided schools," the officer said.

“The SSC’s response, including the general diary, will be among the evidence that will be submitted in court.”
