Seven persons were arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly running a call centre in a building in New Town and duping people of lakhs of rupees.
“The raid was conducted based on credible information about an unauthorised call centre that was duping people on the pretext of setting up telecom towers and by alluring people with false insurance claims,” said a state CID officer.
CID sleuths had received complaints that several Calcuttans had been duped in this way in the past few months, prompting the cops to initiate a case.
The police have seized multiple laptops, mobile phones and CPUs from the office at Martin Burn building in New Town during the raid.
A similar call centre was found operating in New Town from where 10 persons were arrested in November.
