Calcutta High Court on Monday asked the Bengal government to file an affidavit stating details about its Swasthya Sathi scheme.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava said the state government will have to mention the process adopted for helping people to get benefits of the scheme and the number of patients who had failed to get the facility even after approaching the health department.
“The state is also directed to inform the court what steps it is actually taking after receiving such applications,” the order said.
The order followed a public interest litigation by Kunal Saha, a US-based doctor and chairman of People for Better Treatment, alleging malpractices while introducing the scheme, where a many patients did not get assistance even after applying for it.
Affidavit
A division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava on Monday sought affidavit from Kolkata Municipal Corporation stating details about a May 13 incident in Kudghat in which four men lost their lives while cleaning manholes.
The affidavit will have to be submitted by January 28.
The order followed a petition by a social organisation alleging that the civic authorities did not pay adequate compensation to the family members of the victims. “Compensation has been given in minimum quantum. The civic officials did not even bother to meet the family members,” the petition said.
