Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court on Thursday asked the deputy inspector-general of the state criminal investigation department (DIG CID) to seize the mobile phone of a member of the managing committee of Mansuka LN High School in Paschim Medinipur and find out whether he had demanded money for granting a teacher’s prayer for transfer.
The teacher, Ganesh Rajak, said that he had sought a transfer to a school near his village in Purba Medinipur because his father is blind and mother is unwell.
“My client’s application was turned down by the school committee. But later a committee member contacted him over the phone and demanded Rs 1.25 lakh for his transfer,” the lawyer representing the teacher told the court.
The lawyer also submitted a purported audio clip of the phone call. Justice Gangopadhyay asked DIG CID to file a report within a month.
