Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the high court on Wednesday asked the daughter of arrested Trinamul leader Anubrata Mondal and five associates to appear in court at 3pm on Thursday along with their Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) certificates.

The order followed a petition by advocate Firdaus Shamim, who is among the lawyers who have argued in the court against the alleged illegal recruitment of teachers and other staff for govermment-aided schools.

In his petition, Shamin alleged that Sukanya Mondal, the leader’s daughter, got the job of assistant teacher at Kalikapur Primary School in Birbhum without scoring the required marks in the TET. The lawyer also alleged that Sukanya never went to school after getting the job.

“The attendance register is being sent to her for signature and she gets her full salary,” Shamim submitted in court.

The lawyer added that not just Sukanya, Anubrata’s brother, nephew and other relatives and his personal secretary were also given jobs in schools.

Justice Gangopadhyay directed the Birbhum superintendent of police to ensure the presence of all six accused teachers, including Sukanya, in his court at 3pm on Thursday.

Anubrata has been arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in cattle smuggling. Following Wednesday’s court order, his name also got involved in the teacher recruitment scam.

Earlier, Ankita Adhikary, daughter of then minister of state for school education Paresh Adhukary, was held guilty by the court of illegally getting a schoolteacher’s job.

Ankita had to quit the job and refund the money she had drawn as salary.
