Allegations related to appointment of teachers in primary schools by the state primary education council are also under the scanner of Calcutta High Court.

A petition was moved before Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Wednesday alleging that the state primary school teacher recruitment board had appointed many candidates though they had failed in the teachers’ eligibility test (TET) in 2012.

So far under legal scanner were allegations swirling around the appointment of teachers and other staff in government-aided secondary schools by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).

Appearing for the petitioner on Wednesday, advocate Firdaus Shamim presented a Facebook post containing a video in which former CBI officer and former minister in the Mamata Banerjee government, Upendra Nath Biswas, was heard saying that a man named Ranjan of Bagda in North 24-Parganas district was offering jobs in primary schools for money.

Biswas, who has not denied making the post, also said that he was not revealing the real name of the man identified as Ranjan.

After seeing the post, Justice Gangopadhyay issued an order asking the petitioner to make both Biswas and Ranjan parties to the case and directed the CBI to question both.

The judge asked the CBI to complete its interrogation by June 15. In the same order, the judge asked the primary education council to file a report by June 15 stating details about the process of recruitment of teachers for government-aided primary schools.

Earlier, Justice Gangopadhyay had directed the CBI to investigate alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and other staff in government-aided secondary schools.
