Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court on Wednesday asked the state primary education board to appoint 22 more candidates as teachers in government-aided primary schools as they, too, had attempted six wrong questions in the 2014 Teachers’ Eligibility Test.
The judge also asked teachers and other school staff who had obtained jobs by unfair means to quit or face action.
Through five orders issued on different days, the judge has directed the board to appointment over 4,000 candidates who had attempted the wrong questions.
The judge on Wednesday said a CBI investigation had revealed that secondary school education officials had changed the marks obtained by candidates who appeared in tests seeking jobs as teachers for classes IX to XII and also as Group C and D staff.
Through the process, the judge said, the school education department had eliminated qualified candidates and appointed persons of their choice against money.
“My advice to such persons is to leave their jobs voluntarily or the agency will find them out through its investigation. In that case, the court will pass a strong order and they will not be permitted to get jobs in government departments in future,” the judge said.
The CBI, through a report placed before the judge, has said that marks obtained by many candidates were expunged from the department’s server. It was revealed that even the candidates who had scored 0 or 1 were given appointments in schools, the judge said.
