Justice Biswajit Basu of Calcutta High Court on Tuesday extended up to December 30 the stay that the judge had imposed on the process of recruitment of physical and work education teachers for classes IX to XII in state-aided secondary schools.

On November 16, the judge had issued the stay order following petitions by some candidates who alleged that though they were eligible for the teacher posts, their names were not on the list of selected teachers, counselling for which had already started. The counselling, now stalled, was supposed to end on November 30.

On Wednesday, the judge extended the stay. The next hearing will be on December 21. The judge had directed the school service commission not to issue recommendation letters to candidates in the meantime.

Recommendations: The SSC has found that 183 fake recommendation letters were issued for the appointment of teachers in secondary schools.

The counsel appearing for SSC provided the information to Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the high court on Tuesday. The judge asked SSC to find out how many were given appointments on the basis of the 183 recommendations.
