A division bench of the high court headed by Justice Joymalya Bagchi on Thursday asked the CBI to produce by December 19 the FIR, chargesheet and other documents related to the arrest of Subires Bhattachayya, former West Bengal School Service Commission chairman, in connection with alleged illegal recruitments for schools.
The order follows a bail plea by Bhattacharyya.
Moving the petition, lawyers for Bhattacharyya submitted that his client was falsely implicated in the case. The lawyer also said his client had all along cooperated with the CBI.
Counsel for the CBI opposed the plea saying Bhattacharya had played a key role in the recruitments, as part of which crores of rupees had allegedly changed hands.
Justice Bagchi told CBI counsel: “What are your officers actually doing? A single-bench judge of this court is doing everything.”
The division bench declined to grant the bail but asked the CBI to produce the documents.
The same day, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the high court sought a report from the South 24-Parganas district judge stating why Bhattacharyya was remanded in jail for 10 more days after the high court had asked the CBI to take him in its custody.
