A division bench of the high court on Monday allowed three arrested Jharkhand MLAs who are now out on bail to attend the Assembly session there on the condition that they would return to Kolkata within 24 hours of the end of the session.
The order was issued by the division bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Bivas Pattanayak.
The MLAs — Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap and Naman Bixal Kongari — were arrested in Howrah on July 31 after they allegedly failed to explain the source of the Rs 49 lakh that was found in their car.
The MLAs, who were suspended by the Congress, were allegedly intercepted at Howrah’s Panchla the day before.
Soon after the arrests, Anup Singh, a Congress MLA from Jharkhand, lodged a complaint with Ranchi police alleging that the trio had offered him Rs 10 crore to visit Kolkata and also wanted to take him to Assam to meet chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of the BJP.
Singh alleged the money was offered as part of a plot to dislodge the JMM-Congress government in Jharkhand.
