A boy died after his neck got stuck between two rods of an iron railing along the railway tracks near Basanti Colony in Ultadanga in northeast Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy, a student of Class I at Sarada Prasad School, near his house at 4, Basanti Colony, had gone to wash his hands and face after having his lunch at a tap near the railing at the time of the incident, police said.

“The boy’s mother was the first person to see him stuck between the rods of the railing. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead,” said an officer of Ultadanga police station.

An unnatural death case has been registered. The family did not lodge any complaint till Thursday evening.
