The body of a young man from Tangra in southeast Kolkata, who had been missing since earlier this month, was found stuffed inside a plastic drum dumped in a canal on the southern fringes of the city on Tuesday.
Police said they found the drum near Kolkata Leather Complex in Bantala, around 8km from the spot along EM Bypass where Jhunnu Rana’s body is suspected to have been dumped.
The police have arrested four persons, including a couple with whom Rana was last seen. “We have developed an idea of where the body had been dumped after interrogating the suspects,” an officer said.
Rana, a resident of Tangra, was last seen with trader Golam Rabbani who had taken him to his house. Based on circumstantial evidence, Rabbani and his wife Noor Ayesha, who had been missing since that day, were arrested last week.
Two of Rabbani’s relatives have also been arrested for allegedly helping the couple dispose of the body.
