The biker who was ferrying a pedestrian to Sealdah station and allegedly robbed and attacked him with a sharp weapon early on Thursday, has been arrested from a village in South 24-Parganas district.
Police said the accused, Mohammad Sajid, 25, a father of two, was a grill mechanic. He lives on Fremantle Street in Taltala in central Kolkata but was allegedly hiding at his in-laws’ house at Bankrahaat in Bishnupur, South 24-Parganas district.
He was arrested in Bakrahat, around 30km southwest of Kolkata, at 5.15am on Friday.
Sources said the cash and mobile phone robbed from Sheikh Nisar, who was returning home from work around 4am on Thursday, was yet to be recovered. Nisar is said to have paid the motorcyclist Rs 50 to ferry him from the Bank of India crossing to Sealdah station. After the attack, Nisar went to Muchipara police station and lodged a complaint.
The cops could zero in on the motorcycle and its owner after scanning CCTV footage from the spot.
Sajid has been charged with robbery and causing grievous hurt.
