A biker died after he rammed the two-wheeler into the guardwall of the Wipro flyover in Salt Lake late on Saturday, police said.

Nihal Ahmed, a resident of Circus Avenue, was going towards New Town from the Nicco Park end of the Salt Lake Bypass, an officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate’s traffic wing said.

Ahmed was riding his KTM Duke 125cc motorcycle at a speed over 100kmph when it hit the guardwall, he said. Ahmed was not wearing a helmet, the officer added.

“The impact was such that the bike was flung at least 100m from from the spot of the collision. Ahmed was thrown off the seat and landed head first on the asphalt. The handle of the motorcycle turned inwards such was the extent of the impact,” said the officer.

A passing motorist alerted a police team that took Ahmed to the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital in Salt Lake.

A doctor said Ahmed had suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury.

“He was unconscious when brought to the hospital. His vitals were low as he had lost a lot of blood. We tried to revive him but he succumbed after a few hours,” the doctor said.

One of Ahmed’s friends who did not wish to be named said that he liked fast bikes and would often make videos of high speed dashes across the city and would also brag about how he reached from one part of the city to another in a very short time.

“He had purchased this KTM Duke a few months back,” said the friend.

The incident highlighted once more how a section of bikers and two-wheeler riders tend to ride at high speed on flyovers.
