The Bengal government has decided to invite the scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) who were involved in Chandrayaan-3 mission to felicitate them for their success.
“The issue was raised during a cabinet meeting in the state Assembly on Monday and it was decided that the scientists at Isro will be felicitated in the city. The chief minister will write a letter to Isro chief S. Somanath to come with his team to Calcutta for the felicitation. If Isro accepts the invitation, it will be a grand felicitation programme,” said a minister present at the meeting.
According to sources, if the Isro chief accepts the invitation, the felicitation could be held on Red Road.
“If the felicitation programme takes place, it will be a grand one, like the felicitation organised by the state government for Unesco officials for global recognition of Durga Puja,” said a source.
Initially, sources said, chief minister Mamata Banerjee had planned to felicitate all the scientists from Bengal who were attached to Chandrayan-3. But later, it was planned that the entire team involved in the moon mission would be felicitated.
