Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “As we celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, we salute the true leaders of substance. If Mahatma Gandhi is the Father of the Nation, Rabindranath Tagore said that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the Leader of the Nation. Three cheers to these brave men who fought for the freedom of the nation.”

Sanjeev Sanyal’s new book, “Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom” was also released.

Congratulating him, the Governor said, “I would like to congratulate Sanyal for his book on great unknown and lesser-known revolutionaries. Thank you so much for enlightening us.”

Recorded messages from Anita Bose Pfaff daughter of Netaji were played at the programme.

Addressing the dignitaries, Subir Chakraborty, president, Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said, “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has been in the collective consciousness of Indians for over a century now. We connect with the thoughts of Netaji through a sense of deep reverence. He gave a new dimension to the dream of freedom – Azadi, which is intensely entrenched in our minds even today. Today’s programme is a tribute to the courage and passion of Netaji that drives the whole of India.”

The programme was compered by Biplab Ganguli, veteran news caster & Doordarshan presenter.

An audio-visual presentation was also screened in remembrance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
