A missing person’s complaint has been lodged with Ballygunge police station and the missing persons squad at the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar.

An officer at Lalbazar said the 44-year-old father of two had left home, in a neighbourhood bordering Bhowanipore and Ballygunge, on Monday afternoon and did not return home after that.

The Telegraph is not naming the businessman for the sake of the investigation.

Based on the complaint lodged by his family, the police have started a case.

The police refused to share details of the probe citing “sensitivity” of the matter and the fact that the person had yet to be located.

Sources in the police said electronic surveillance showed his mobile phone’s last tower location was at Nimta in North 24-Parganas.

“His phone has been recovered from a place in Burtolla, in north Kolkata. But there is no trace of the man,” said an officer.

The police said they were working on leads obtained from the place where the phone was found.

However, there is no clarity on whether the man was carrying the phone himself or whether it was with someone else when the tower location was mapped.

The family lives in an upscale neighbourhood in Bhowanipore, which is under Ballygunge police station.
