Several residents of a housing complex in Chinar Park were allegedly beaten up by members of a wedding party when they protested the bursting of crackers and loud music being played while the procession was heading towards a banquet hall near the complex late on Sunday.
The residents of Loharuka Green Chinar have filed a complaint at Eco Park police station.
An officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate said they had received a complaint from the residents of the complex and started a probe.
Tapas Dutta, one of the residents of the complex, told Metro on Monday that several members of a marriage party that was headed to a local banquet hall were bursting crackers. Loud music from speakers mounted on a mini-truck was being played, he added.
According to Dutta, the complex has several elderly residents, who complained about the noise, and some of the flaming remnants of the crackers had landed inside their complex.
“We went and asked them to not burst crackers and to lower the volume of the music. Suddenly, several members of the marriage party ganged up against us and started hitting us,” said Dutta.
One of the members of the marriage procession denied beating anybody. Only an argument had taken placed, he said.
“We are scanning the CCTV footage of the complex to find out the exact sequence of events,” an officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate said.
