Rajkumar had sent the complainant, Asit Biswas, a Facebook friend request, an officer of the Salt Lake cyber-crime police station said.

Biswas started chatting with Rajkumar and expressed his desire to buy furniture. “Hearing this, Rajkumar sent him a number ,” the officer said.

Through the number, Biswas got in touch with a person who identified himself as Navin Singh and claimed to run a business of manufacturing wooden furniture.

He sent Biswas photographs of furniture on WhatsApp and asked him to send Rs 45,000 to a mobile wallet.

“Biswas sent the money in three instalments but his furniture was not delivered, after which he lodged the complaint,” said the officer.

Cops traced Rajkumar through the number linked to the mobile wallet. Rajkumar was produced at a Rajasthan court that allowed a seven-day transit remand to the police.
