The 12 state-run zoos, in Bengal including the Alipore zoo, were shut in March 2020 to tackle the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

When the pandemic situation improved last year in October, the zoological gardens were reopened for the public.

However, in May 2021, the zoos were closed again due to the raging second wave of the pandemic.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the Alipore zoo authorities announced the reopening of the zoo.

The authorities have made masks mandatory to enter the zoo. Every visitor also has to go through a sanitiser tunnel before entering the zoo.

Zoo officials will be at every entry point equipped with thermal guns to check the temperature of the visitors.

The zoo will remain open from 9am to 5pm. Entry passes will be available till 4.30pm.
