Akasa Air on Thursday launched daily flights from Kolkata to Bangalore and Guwahati.
The first flight from Bangalore landed in Kolkata on Thursday afternoon with 167 passengers, said an airport official. It took off for Guwahati with 174 passengers.
Akasa is the first airline to launch flights from Kolkata since Go First stalled its operations on May 3.
According to an Akasa Air official, the airline’s flight will take off from Bangalore every day at 2.30pm and arrive in Kolkata at 5.15pm. From Kolkata, the flight will take off for Guwahati at 5.55pm and arrive there at 7.05pm.
The flight will take off from Guwahati at 7.45pm to reach Kolkata at 9.10pm. It will again depart from Kolkata at 9.50pm and reach Bangalore at 12.15am the next day, said the official.
“The introduction of Akasa Air flights will boost Kolkata's aviation sector. We are expecting the airline to add more destinations from the city," said C. Pattabhi, director of the Kolkata airport.
“At this moment we will be connecting Bangalore and Guwahati from Kolkata. In future, we will be strengthening our network out of Kolkata,” said an Akasa official.
