Abhishek Mitra of Hyderabad finished third at the 2023 British Mid-Amateur Championship, which was held at the Woodhall Spa Golf Club between May 30 and June 1, with a score of 234 (+17). The event took place over three rounds at the Woodhall Spa Golf Course, three hours north of London.

The event drew more than 72 participants and featured two courses. One 36-hole course is called Bracken and the other is called Hotchkin. Hotchkin is ranked 47th among the top 60 golf courses in the world.. Only one Indian, Abhishek Mitra, went on to compete at the British-Mid Amateur. Round one was played at the Bracken course, which featured undulating greens and thick roughs. Abhishek was leading the tournament after round one with an even par score and a three-shot lead. Immediately after submitting the round one score, the second round started. With rain coming down and the temperature dipping to almost four degrees, exhaustion set in for Abhishek, who was without a caddie. This affected his score.

However, on day two, the third round was played at the Hotchin course, where Abhishek bounced back from ninth position to tie third with a score of 75-three-over. He was just one shot away from the winning score. A bridge at the par five, 18th hole would have given him a chance for a playoff. Instead, an 18-footer putt just shied away from the cup to give him a tied third-place finish. He will again go out to play The Scottish Mid-Amateur to be held at Troon in September 2023.

England's Darren Rix won the tournament with a score of 233. Another British golfer, Matt Peacock, had the same score but finished second because Rix's final-day score was higher.
