A woman and her friends returning home from a dhaba in Ballygunge after dinner early on Thursday were allegedly tailed and assaulted near the Victoria Memorial by occupants of a car whom they had seen at the eatery.
Police said four men were arrested after the woman, in her 20s, lodged a complaint with Hastings police station.
The complaint says one of the men in the car in which the woman and her friends were travelling was hit on his head and the woman suffered injuries on her hand when she tried to resist the attacker.
The woman, who works in an event management group, was with two other women and two men.
“We were leaving the dhaba when this group of men came. Initially, one of them tried to click my photograph. I ignored and we left. A few seconds later we saw that the men had also left and their Honda City was trailing us,” the woman told The Telegraph.
This was around 12.15am, she said.
“The car overtook us on Theatre Road and headed towards the Victoria Memorial. As we, too, were headed in the same direction, I asked my friend to pull over near Queensway. A few moments later we saw the car had taken a U-turn and coming towards us,” she said.
The Honda City blocked the car in which the woman was travelling.
“I then stepped out and protested. One of the men came out of the Honda City and uttered abusive words. I protested. I heard another man say they should attack the men in my car,” said the woman.
By then, the man who was at the wheel of the car in which the women and her friends were travelling had stepped out. A man in the other car allegedly hit him on the head with a stone. The woman tried to resist the attacker and suffered hand injuries.
“Another friend then drove the car to Hastings police station. We gave the number of the Honda City to the police,” she said.
The police said four men have been arrested.
