An officer said five BJP activists came out of a party office and asked the officials to show identity cards.

“Soon, an argument broke out, followed by a scuffle,” said the officer.

The cops accompanying the team detained the men. Later, the five were arrested.

The leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, condemned the police action.

“The police personnel along with the Trinamool miscreants entered the South Kolkata BJP organizational district office at Dhakuria and assaulted BJP functionaries Snehashish Dutta, Jagbir Singh, Sameer Nath and others. I strongly condemn such despicable behaviour of the police during the election campaign,” Adhikari posted on his X handle.
