4 youths assault taxi driver, flee with vehicle in Panchasayar

The accused were later arrested after the driver dialled 100 and alerted police

A group of youths who forced a taxi driver to take them to Panchasayar in east Kolkata from Kalighat on Thursday night allegedly beat him up and fled with the vehicle on reaching the destination.

The youths were later arrested after the driver dialled 100 and alerted police.

Driver Virendra Yadav told the police that on reaching the destination in the Shahid Smriti area of Panchasayar, the four asked him to go further. He refused and they allegedly abused him.

When Yadav resisted, one of the youths allegedly slapped him. Yadav stepped out of the car and so did the four. A scuffle followed and two youths allegedly beat up Yadav. He fell and cut his forehead. Before he could stand up, the four sped away with the taxi.

Yadav dialled 100 and the police got him admitted to hospital. Armed with a description of the youths and the vehicle’s number, a police team located the taxi. On further search, one of the four was spotted and arrested. Later, the other three were rounded up, too.
