"The man was forced to pay Rs 41,000, which he withdrew from an ATM, before he was released late on Saturday," said an officer of Haridevpur police station.

“On Sunday morning, he started getting calls demanding the rest of the money. It was then that he decided to report the matter to the police,” the officer said.

A man named Kuhak Som, a resident of Netaji Nagar, has been arrested. "A search is on for the remaining gang members," the officer said.

Som has been charged under IPC sections related to cheating, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.

“One should be cautious while chatting with strangers on social media," said an officer.
