Pradipta Ghosh, the victim, was a resident of Barwaritala Road in Beleghata. He was taken to the NRS Medical College and Hospital, where he died.

“Like most days, we went out for a walk at night and returned home. Yesterday (Tuesday night), he wanted to have biryani and said he would visit a shop in the neighbourhood and return in no time.
Around 20 minutes later, we received a call from the police saying he had met with an accident,” said Pradipta’s cousin Prasenjit.

On reaching NRS hospital, Prasenjit caught a glimpse of Pradipta lying on a stretcher, his head covered with a
blood-soaked towel. Pradipta was declared dead a few hours later.

The police said the crash was reported around 11.15pm on Chaulpatty Road. An officer said the truck hit the bike from the rear and fled.

“The youth was flung off the bike. He crashed on the road and his head hit a concrete surface,” the officer said.
