19 crude bombs, a pistol and two cartridges found in south Kolkata’s Haridevpur

The explosives were found in an auto-rickshaw, the police said

As many as 19 crude bombs were seized from an auto-rickshaw near a children's home in Kolkata's Haridevpur area, a senior officer said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers conducted a raid on Friday night and found three auto-rickshaws on the ground near a children's home in 41 Pally locality in Haridevpur police station area, he said.

"As many as 19 crude bombs, one country-made pistol and two cartridges were found in one of the auto-rickshaws, which was operational on the Chakraberia-Bijoygarh route. We are checking CCTV footage of the area," the officer said.

Taratala flyover closure

The Behala­ bound flank of the Taratala flyover will be closed to traffic on Saturday and early on Sunday to facilitate repairs. A portion of the expansion joint has shifted, leaving a gap on the carriageway, police said. Traffic will be diverted along Diamond Harbour Road beneath the flyover. The north­bound flank of the flyover will remain open.
