15-year-old from Dum Dum dies of dengue

A 15-year-old boy from Dum Dum’s Private Road who had tested positive for dengue on Saptami died at a city hospital on Friday.

Sanjay Halder was admitted to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday.

Family members had initially taken the teenager to Dum Dum Municipal Hospital after he started vomiting at home.

The doctors at the municipal hospital did an initial check-up before referring him to RG Kar hospital, a family member told The Telegraph.

Bikash Halder, the boy’s uncle, said Sanjoy had been down with high fever since Chaturthi. They got a dengue test done on Panchami, as advised by a doctor.

“The test report came on Saptami and he was positive. We were giving him medicines but his condition kept worsening. In the afternoon he started to vomit. We took him to Dum Dum Municipal Hospital, which is close to our house. There the doctors asked us to take him to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as his condition was critical,” said Halder. Sanjay Das, member of the chairman-in-council in charge of health of South Dum Dum Municipality, confirmed that Halder died of dengue.
