Eleven men from Jamtara in Jharkhand, who were allegedly wanted in cyber fraud cases in the city, were arrested at a hotel on Lenin Sarani in central Kolkata on Thursday night.
The police said the men had come to watch the IPL match at Eden and were rounded up after the game.
Police officers said at least six of the accused were involved in an “electricity bill” fraud reported to Tollygunge police station in February. The rest were wanted in a KYC fraud that was reported to Thakurpukur police station on the city’s southwestern fringes in January last year.
“Nine persons had earlier been arrested in the two cases," said an officer.
The accused had bought high-value tickets for the IPL match.
“All of them were wanted in electricity fraud, KYC fraud or for cheating people posing as bank officials,” said joint commissioner, crime, Sankha Shubhra Chakrabarty.
