A 10-year-old girl from Picnic Garden died of dengue at a city hospital on Saturday.
Pallabi Dey was admitted to the Institute of Child Health in Park Circus on Thursday. Her condition deteriorated rapidly.
The death certificate mentioned “severe dengue” as the immediate cause.
“She was admitted on Thursday afternoon but had to be shifted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at night. She developed multiple organ failure on Friday night and died the next day,” said Prabhas Prasun Giri, a doctor who was part of the team treating the girl.
The girl had a fever since early last week and had already tested positive for dengue when she was brought to the hospital.
“The deterioration was rapid and irreversible,” said Giri. The hospital was still having fewer dengue cases compared to the usual situation during the late monsoon, he said.
Faiz Ahmed Khan, the councillor of Ward 66, where the girl lived, said she was a Class VI student.
